——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Deciding on an eReader basically comes down to personal preference.  All three brands we’ve reviewed make good products and each performed well.  One big factor to consider when looking for any eReader is book selection.  Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo each offer millions of book and many in each library are free.  These are generally classics and out of print books.  You aren’t likely to find the newest best seller being given away for free.  Each has a selection of periodicals that you can subscribe to as well.  Kobo is a bit behind in this regard but they are adding more selections all the time.

The other major factor is the eReader itself.  Do you want to be able to browse the Web, check email, and watch movies?  If so you’ll want to look at the higher-end models like the Kobo Vox, the Kindle Fire, or the Nook Tablet.  We liked the Kobo Vox the best overall as it seemed to have more useful apps than the competitors.  Keep in mind that with the bigger, brighter screen comes a much reduced battery life.  The tablet models generally get less than 8 hours from a full charge. If you are just looking to read books you’ll be better off skipping the tablet models and going for a straight eReader.  These models have battery lives measured in months and you’ll probably get more reading done as there aren’t as many distractions as with the tablets.  The choice really comes down to how you plan on using your eReader.

Be sure to read our full reviews and find the model that’s right for you.
